Draw Something, Star Wars Edition

So I haven't posted for a while. I'm not really going to apologize, since I know it'll happen again. But I did wan to put up some stuff I've done on Draw Something this last month.

So for the first part of the month, it's been business as usual with random characters and stupid puns.

Pray. Threw a little bit of Mormonism in there too.

So then a friend named Elisabeth gave me the idea to do Fandom Draw Something. It's where you pick a fandom at the beginning of a game and make everything relate to that fandom. 

Thing is, I wasn't feeling social enough to actually ask everyone to do a fandom with me, so I just went ahead and sent everyone Star Wars related pictures for words that aren't related to star wars at all. I hope my friends didn't mind.

See, to me, Star Wars is the first thing I ever geeked out to. I remember watching the original trilogy at the age of five and falling in love with it, and then getting all excited for the new trilogy when I was in 4th grade. I'm old enough now to understand how awful the prequels are, but Star Wars holds a special place in my heart.

What Skyrim Has Taught Me About Myself

Ok, this is going to be a super-nerdy post, but I feel the need to talk about something has sucked my life away.

If you didn't know, Skyrim is like, the coolest game ever. It's a little too cool, in fact. It's really addicting, and it's been sucking my life away. I'm normally not a huge gamer. Here are some things I've discovered as I played the game.

Discovery #1: People depend on me waaay more than they should.

Discovery #2: I get distracted really easily.

Discovery #3: I get a kick out of doing things in a videogame that I would never do in real life.

Discovery #4: You should never take directions from me.


If you frequent the blog, you probably already know this. But I have found that when getting from point A to point B, like so:

That is my feeble attempt at using a shortcut by trying to go in a straight line from A to B--even though a giant mountain is in the way. And then I get distracted by funny looking buildings along the way, and then I might get stopped by a guy who wants me to save their dog, and then I might get jumped by some bandits, and then I might kill a bunch of deer just for fun, and then I might get eaten by a dragon and have to start the whole journey over. . . It's kind of like playing The Oregon Trail, actually.

Discovery # 5: I find amusement in slaughtering everyone when I run out of things to do.


I'm not going to draw a picture of this one, but once I've completed all the main quests and all the side quests, and even most of the minor quests that no one likes, I'm left with a character that has god-like killing abilities--and no bad guys to kill. What other choice do I have other than to storm through the main city and mindlessly kill everyone there?

Like I said, I do things in videogames I wouldn't do in real life.

Cosplay Bingo Makes Me Smile

I went on a road trip with a friend over the Memorial day weekend.  She sets up events, so she was headed off to FanimeCon in San Jose, California, and I was along for the ride.  Fanime is a convention dedicated to Anime, Japanese Pop Culture, and general nerd stuff.  Now, I'm what is called a "convention virgin" and not really an anime nerd, so I would like to tell you that I was out of my element. . . but that's not really true.  I was surrounded by loads of freakishly skinny Asians wearing glasses, so I pretty much blended in.

Something that was definitely eye catching was the vast amounts of cosplayers--convention goers wearing costumes.  Why?  I have no idea.  I knew there would be at least a few of them, but I was blown away by the sheer number of them.  Strangely, there didn't seem to be any etiquette on what is an appropriate costume to wear.  I almost immediately found a guy dressed as Lucius Malfoy, and then later found the Bananas in Pajamas.  I asked my friend if it was possible to wear an inappropriate costume here.  She said no.

You get super-nerd points if you can name more than three of the characters here.

Not one to miss the opportunity for a bit of fun, we decided to play some 'cosplayer bingo.'  I made some bingo cards and a we went through the convention hunting for various costumes.

It was a fun distraction.  Here is my artistic interpretation of some of the cosplayers we found while playing bingo.  All of these were real costumes.

I believe such a weapon would be inefficient in combat.

I ended up tying my friend for the first bingo.  I think I made the card too easy--we were able to find almost everyone on both our cards within an hour.

Also, I should note one of the bigger reasons I blended in with the crowd:

I unwittingly dressed up for it.

I wore a shirt that said "HATERS GONNA LOVE THIS" thinking that it was about as far away from the Asian cosplay swag as I could get (after all, Kanye references 'haters' in his songs).  But then people started approaching me and saying "Dude, I love your shirt," or "Where did you get your shirt?"  One vender with a bullhorn yelled at me from across the hall "I'm a hater, and I'm lovin' it!"  I asked my friend what the deal was, and she said that the saying comes from an internet meme (Epic Meal Time?).

So it turns out that in spite of my best efforts, I ended up being a spot on my own bingo card.  What. the. freak.
